I've travelled through France many times, discovering beautiful boutique hotels, cosy guesthouses and unique places to escape for a weekend. Some of my favourite stays include Le Barn Hotel near Paris, Mama Shelter in Lille and Champagne Collery in the Champagne region. I particularly love smaller hotels with beautiful interiors, a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of character.

Where to Stay in France?
Where to stay in France really depends on the kind of trip you're planning. For a city break, Paris and Lille are obvious choices, while the French countryside is perfect for a slower weekend surrounded by nature, vineyards and small villages. Personally, I love combining both – a few days in a city followed by a stay at a beautiful countryside hotel or B&B.
Paris and the Countryside Around Paris
Paris is perfect if you're looking for stylish boutique hotels, restaurants and plenty to see and do. If you prefer somewhere quieter, you don't have to travel far from the city to find beautiful country houses and small boutique hotels surrounded by nature. Le Barn Hotel is a lovely example and makes an easy countryside escape from Paris.
Normandy
Normandy is one of my favourite regions for a countryside road trip in France. Think small villages, traditional houses, beautiful landscapes and characterful places to stay. It's a great choice if you're looking for a romantic B&B or boutique countryside hotel and want to explore at a slower pace.
Burgundy and Bordeaux
For vineyards, good food and long weekends in the French countryside, Burgundy and the area around Bordeaux are both lovely options. Here you'll find everything from small B&Bs and converted farmhouses to stylish countryside retreats – perfect if you want to combine your stay with wine tasting and exploring nearby villages.
Northern France and Champagne
Northern France is ideal for a weekend away from Belgium, the Netherlands or the UK. Lille works particularly well for a city break, while the Champagne region is perfect for a romantic weekend among the vineyards. Stay in Reims or Épernay if you want restaurants and Champagne houses nearby, or choose a smaller village for a quieter countryside escape.

Hotel Paradis, Paris
Hotel Paradis is a charming boutique hotel in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, within walking distance of some lovely cafés, restaurants and independent shops. The hotel combines classic Parisian elegance with contemporary interiors, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
We spent two wonderful nights at Hotel Paradis and loved the beautifully decorated rooms, cosy lobby and lovely boutique breakfast. It's a great choice if you're looking for a stylish yet relaxed place to stay during a weekend in Paris.
Best for: A romantic Paris city break, beautiful interiors and exploring the 10th arrondissement.

Le Barn Hotel, Near Paris
Looking for a countryside escape without travelling too far from Paris? Le Barn is a beautiful boutique hotel surrounded by nature, located on the Haras de la Cense estate near Rambouillet, around 45 minutes from the French capital.
Designed by Parisian creative studio Be-poles, the hotel combines contemporary design with the relaxed atmosphere of a French country retreat. Expect stylish bedrooms, peaceful surroundings, a restaurant and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.
Le Barn is the kind of place where you can spend your days walking, cycling or simply relaxing with a good book. A lovely alternative to a traditional city break.

La Fermette du Merle is a charming holiday cottage in the beautiful Burgundy countryside. This lovingly restored French farmhouse offers a peaceful escape for two, surrounded by nature and a large private garden.
Inside, you'll find a lovely combination of traditional French character and modern comforts, including a cosy wood-burning stove, a comfortable bedroom and a fully equipped kitchen.

L'Epicerie du Pape is a charming bed and breakfast in the Normandy village of Vascoeuil, not far from Lyons-la-Forêt and around 100 kilometres from Paris.
Set in a former village grocery shop, this intimate B&B is full of character, with vintage furniture, carefully chosen antiques and a lovely garden. The individually decorated guest rooms create a wonderfully cosy atmosphere, while the surrounding countryside is perfect for exploring small French villages.
I stayed at L'Epicerie du Pape myself and loved discovering this little corner of Normandy. It's exactly the kind of place that makes a countryside weekend feel special.

D'une Île is a beautiful countryside guesthouse in the heart of Le Perche, Normandy. Set within a restored 17th-century hamlet, the property consists of several traditional buildings surrounded by meadows and woodland.
With just ten bedrooms and a small restaurant, D'une Île feels more like a peaceful French countryside hideaway than a traditional hotel. Expect rustic interiors, natural materials and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.

We stayed at Mama Shelter Lille ourselves and enjoyed its relaxed, informal atmosphere. It's a great option if you prefer a hotel with personality rather than a traditional boutique stay.

Champagne Collery is a beautiful boutique guesthouse in the heart of the Champagne region, in the charming village of Aÿ-Champagne.
Set within a historic Champagne house, the property offers just four elegant guest rooms, combining classic French details with contemporary comforts. It's a particularly lovely place to stay if you're planning a romantic weekend exploring the vineyards and Champagne houses around Épernay and Reims.
