The 10th arrondissement is one of my favourite areas of Paris if you want to experience a more local side of the city. Around Canal Saint-Martin you’ll find lovely restaurants, coffee shops, independent addresses and typically Parisian streets that are perfect for wandering. In this guide, I’m sharing my favourite places, things to do and a boutique hotel I personally recommend.
Where is the 10th arrondissement in Paris?
The 10th arrondissement sits just north-east of central Paris. Two of the city’s major railway stations, Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est, are located here, making the area particularly convenient if you arrive in Paris by train.
One of the loveliest parts of the neighbourhood is around Canal Saint-Martin. From here, you can easily walk towards République and Le Marais.
Things To Do 10th Arrondissement Paris
The 10th is not an arrondissement where you rush from one major landmark to the next. Its appeal is in the streets, cafés and local atmosphere, making it a lovely area to simply wander for a few hours. Canal Saint-Martin and Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis are two of my favourite places to explore.
Canal Saint-Martin
Canal Saint-Martin is one of the best-known places in the 10th arrondissement. Along the canal you’ll find tree-lined quays, little bridges, cafés and boutiques. Pick up something from a bakery and walk beside the water, or find a spot along the canal and watch Paris go by.
Rue du Fabourg Saint-Denis
Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis is a lively street filled with restaurants, bars, shops and delicatessens. It feels quite different from the more classic, polished parts of Paris, which is exactly why I enjoy walking around here. Stop at Chez Jeannette or cocktail bar Le Syndicat along the way.

Restaurant Bonhomie
Restaurant Bonhomie in the 10th arrondissement serves Mediterranean shared plates in a stylish and vibrant setting. The cocktails are creative, and it's a popular spot for a fun night out.
Restaurant Libertino
Restaurant Libertino, part of the Big Mamma Group, is a lively Italian trattoria located on Rue de Paradis in the 10th arrondissement. It’s known for its crispy Neapolitan pizzas and delicious truffle pasta, and offers a romantic atmosphere perfect for couples. The ambiance resembles a Tuscan family home; full of charm, character, and delightful surprises.
Christophe Michalak
Christophe Michalak is a renowned French pastry chef and chocolatier. At his elegant patisserie at 60 Rue du Faubourg Poissonnière, you can enjoy his iconic 'Miss K' religieuse or the 'Kosmik' mousse in glass jars.
Liberté Paris
Liberté Paris blends traditional French baking with modern design, offering a selection of refined pastries and artisanal breads. Their 'Tigré' and 'Pain au Chocolat' are favorites among both locals and visitors.
Where to stay in the 10th arrondissement of Paris
If you want to stay in the 10th arrondissement, Hotel Paradis is my personal recommendation: a boutique hotel within walking distance of Gare du Nord.
My hotel recommendation: Hotel Paradis Paris
I stayed at Hotel Paradis for one night during a work trip to Paris and was very happy with my choice. It is a small, stylish boutique hotel in the 10th arrondissement, around a 12-minute walk from Gare du Nord. I arrived at around 11am and was offered a coffee and croissant, and my room was already ready too.
I particularly liked the combination of its convenient location, colourful interiors and cosy lobby. Breakfast was another highlight, with fresh croissants, pain au chocolat, granola and French yoghurt.

The 10th arrondissement offers charming boutique hotels that blend Parisian elegance with a central, convenient location near Gare du Nord and Canal Saint-Martin. Hotels like Hôtel Paradis and Hôtel Grand Amour provide a stylish, boutique stay with easy access to shopping, dining, and cultural hotspots.
Is the 10th arrondissement a good area to stay in Paris?
Frequently asked questions
I think so, particularly if you are travelling to Paris by train. Both Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est are located in the arrondissement.
I would personally look around Canal Saint-Martin or the southern part of the arrondissement. You’ll find plenty of lovely restaurants and coffee shops here and can easily walk towards République and Le Marais. The area immediately around Gare du Nord is considerably busier.
