Hanseatic city Harderwijk

Hanseatic City Harderwijk

Hanseatic city Harderwijk charms visitors with its picturesque harbor, historic city walls, and cobblestone streets lined with cozy cafés and artisan shops. Nestled on the Veluwe’s edge, it offers a perfect blend of cultural heritage and natural beauty, ideal for a relaxing and scenic getaway. We had a lovely stay at Bed & Breakfast Studio De Keizer. Discovered cute little shops in the ''De Hondegatstraat'' and spent a few hours strolling around and enjoying the sights of Harderwijk. The Vischmarkt is your place to be for cute bars and restaurants.

Bed and Breakfast Harderwijk

The beautiful Bed & Breakfast Studio Keizer, tucked away Harderwijk’s old town, is newly opened in April 2025. The B&B is flawlessly run by its charming hosts, Dick and Brenda. The studio itself is a masterclass in boutique design, thoughtfully styled down to the tiniest detail. Think: a luxuriously oversized bed, a little table for two, and a compact yet elegant kitchenette with a minibar-style fridge. The walk-in shower is spacious and has shower goodies from Marie Stella Maris. Guests are welcomed with a curated charcuterie board and a drink. Such a kind gesture. Breakfast is available on request, and trust us, it’s worth waking up for.

Things To Do Hanseatic City Harderwijk

Marius van Dokkum Museum – The only Dutch museum dedicated entirely to the humorous and detailed works of a living artist, Marius van Dokkum.

Harderwijk Beach & Boulevard – A little sandy beach island with shallow lake water, beach bar and restaurant Walhalla, and waterfront terraces perfect for relaxing. Boat rental or supping – Rent a boat or stand-up paddle board at Sup & Go to explore Wolderwijd and cruise into nearby lake islands.

The Vischpoort is the only remaining city gate in Harderwijk and forms a striking entrance to the harbor and Strandboulevard, where fish used to be brought in. Walk through it and you’ll find yourself directly on the Vischmarkt, considered by many to be the most beautiful square in the Netherlands, surrounded by historic facades and a lively atmosphere. Around this area is a charming little square with old fishermen’s cottages. From here, you can easily stroll into some of the city’s most picturesque streets on the other side of the centre, such as Blokhuissteeg, Burgtstraat, and Straat van Sevenhuysen, winding through the historic center.
