Ancoats is without a doubt one of Manchester’s coolest neighbourhoods—a unique mix of raw industrial heritage and a new wave of trendy spots. Nestled right next to the buzzing Northern Quarter, what was once a deserted industrial zone is now a lively district packed with artisanal bakeries, cosy coffee shops, and restaurants where you can easily lose a few hours or a whole afternoon.


Walking around Ancoats is a treat. Stroll past old factory buildings that have a subtle New York vibe, follow the canal towards the leafy Victoria Mill Park, or wander the other way to the sleek New Islington Marina. Every corner has a story, and the neighbourhood’s charm makes it impossible not to explore.

  • Flakey – Famous for perfectly laminated pastries that are as stunning to look at as they are to eat. Ideal for a quick but indulgent breakfast.

  • Pollen Bakery – The ultimate hipster haven, with sourdough bread and seasonal bakes. Don’t be surprised by the queue outside. Everything here screams thoughtful, artisanal craftsmanship. Highly recommended.

  • The Flat Baker – Small, specialised, and all about pure flavours and skillful baking. A must-visit for true bread enthusiasts.

  • Companio Bakery – Scandinavian-inspired, simple, and top-quality. Perfect for a quiet coffee break paired with something fresh from the oven.

  • Off the Press Coffee – Tiny, charming, and packed with local character. Excellent coffee without any fuss.

  • Ancoats Coffee Co. – A pioneer in the local scene with a minimalist aesthetic. Here, it’s all about premium beans and perfect extraction. Tucked away in a small industrial building, with a cosy little terrace at the back for outdoor seating.

  • Rudy’s Neapolitan Pizza – Famous for its light, airy pizzas and relaxed atmosphere. Located on the same square as Butter Bird, adding extra buzz. We had some of the best pizza we’ve ever eaten here.

  • Erst (Wine & Food) – Small, refined plates with a focus on seasonal ingredients. Perfect for a leisurely, culinary evening.

Wine Bars & Delis

  • Kerb Wine – Casual and cosy, with a focus on natural wines. Feels like sitting down with friends for a drink. A top spot for wine lovers.

  • Ancoats Deli – Ideal for high-quality snacks and delicacies. Grab something to take away or enjoy a seat on the terrace and soak in the neighbourhood’s vibe.


Ancoats feels like a village within a city. Compact, creative, and constantly evolving. You might pop in for a coffee and end up staying until the last glass of wine.

Today, it’s one of Manchester’s most stylish and creative areas. Once an industrial district, it’s now a hotspot of minimalist cafés and innovative restaurants. The combination of industrial heritage, culinary excellence, and a modern, artistic energy makes it a destination in its own right. Spend half a day here, and you’ll feel exactly how the city has reinvented itself.
