Some places in Mallorca impress you with dramatic beaches or luxury resorts. Pollença wins you over in a much quieter way. It's the kind of town where mornings start with specialty coffee on a sunny square, afternoons are spent wandering through narrow stone streets lined with independent boutiques, and evenings almost always end with fresh Mediterranean food and a glass of local wine.
Located in North Mallorca, Pollença perfectly combines culture, gastronomy and nature. The historic town sits at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana, while the beaches of Port de Pollença are less than a ten-minute drive away. That means you can spend the morning exploring one of Mallorca's most beautiful old towns before heading to the coast for an afternoon by the sea or a boat trip along the peninsula. Very few places on the island offer that combination.
What I personally love most is that Pollença never feels like it's trying too hard. There are beautiful boutique hotels, stylish villas and excellent restaurants, but everything still feels authentic. Instead of souvenir shops on every corner, you'll discover carefully curated boutiques, family-run cafés and local restaurants where long lunches are simply part of the day. It's an ideal destination for couples looking for a romantic escape, food lovers searching for the best restaurants in Mallorca, or anyone wanting a slower, more authentic holiday in Mallorca.

Where is Pollença and when should you visit?
Pollença is located in the north of Mallorca, around a 45-minute drive from Palma de Mallorca Airport. The easiest way to get here is by rental car, which also gives you the freedom to explore nearby highlights like Cap de Formentor, Cala Sant Vicenç and the beautiful mountain roads of the Serra de Tramuntana. While buses connect Palma with Pollença and Port de Pollença, having your own car makes discovering the region much easier.
Parking is surprisingly straightforward. Several free and paid car parks are located just outside the historic centre, allowing you to explore the old town on foot. If you're visiting on a Sunday for the weekly market, I recommend arriving early, as the town quickly becomes one of the busiest places in northern Mallorca.
Although Pollença is lovely throughout the year, I'd choose May, June, September or October. The weather is warm enough for the beach, restaurants and outdoor terraces are in full swing, and the temperatures are perfect for hiking, cycling and exploring the surrounding villages without the intense heat of midsummer.
The Best Things To Do in Pollença
One of the best things about Pollença is that you don't need a packed itinerary. It's a town that rewards slow travel. Instead of rushing between attractions, take the time to wander through quiet streets, browse local boutiques and stop whenever a beautiful terrace catches your eye. That's exactly how I've enjoyed my days here.
Explore the Old Town
The historic centre is where you'll spend most of your time. Honey-coloured stone buildings, narrow cobbled streets and flower-filled balconies give Pollença its unmistakable charm. Every corner seems to reveal another hidden square, independent shop or inviting café, making it one of my favourite places in Mallorca simply to wander without a plan.
Relax in Plaça Major
Sooner or later, every walk leads to Plaça Major, the heart of the town. Surrounded by restaurants and cafés, it's the perfect place to slow down with a coffee in the morning or enjoy a long lunch while watching local life unfold. If you're only going to sit on one terrace in Pollença, make it here.
Climb the Calvari Steps
The famous Calvari Steps are one of Pollença's best-known landmarks. Climbing all 365 steps takes a little effort, but the views over the rooftops, surrounding countryside and Tramuntana mountains are more than worth it. I always recommend going early in the morning or just before sunset, when the light is at its best and the temperatures are cooler.
Visit the Sunday Market
If your itinerary is flexible, plan your visit for a Sunday. The weekly market transforms the streets around Plaça Major into one of Mallorca's liveliest markets, with stalls selling fresh produce, flowers, local delicacies, handmade ceramics and clothing. I like arriving early, grabbing a coffee, wandering through the market before it gets busy and then lingering over lunch on one of the terraces.
Discover local boutiques
One of the reasons shopping in Pollença feels so special is the absence of big international brands. Instead, you'll find beautifully curated boutiques and artisan shops throughout the old town. La Bendita Boutique is one of my favourites for timeless fashion and accessories, while the surrounding streets are full of independent stores selling linen clothing, handmade ceramics and unique homeware that make far better souvenirs than anything you'll find at the airport.
Visit Cap de Formentor
If you're only taking one day trip from Pollença, make it Cap de Formentor. The drive to Mallorca's northernmost point is every bit as impressive as the lighthouse itself. Winding roads, dramatic cliffs and panoramic sea views make this one of the island's most unforgettable experiences.
Stop at Mirador Es Colomer
Before continuing to the lighthouse, pull over at Mirador Es Colomer. This viewpoint offers one of the most spectacular panoramas in Mallorca, overlooking steep limestone cliffs that disappear into the turquoise Mediterranean. It's one of those places where you'll naturally spend more time than planned, simply taking in the view.
Visit the Cap de Formentor Lighthouse
The road continues to the iconic Cap de Formentor Lighthouse, built in 1863 on the edge of the peninsula. While the lighthouse itself is relatively modest, the scenery surrounding it is what makes the visit so memorable. Standing here, surrounded by rugged cliffs and endless sea views, it's easy to understand why this is one of Mallorca's most photographed landmarks.
One of Europe's most beautiful cycling routes
Even if you're not a cyclist, you'll quickly notice that Cap de Formentor is one of the island's most famous cycling routes. Every year, amateur cyclists and professional teams come to North Mallorca to ride this spectacular road through the Serra de Tramuntana.
If you enjoy cycling, this is one of the rides you'll remember long after your holiday ends.
Know about the road closure
During the main tourist season, the road towards Cap de Formentor is closed to most private vehicles from 10:00 AM. If you're planning to drive, I highly recommend leaving early in the morning. Not only will you avoid the road closure, but you'll also enjoy quieter roads and much better lighting for photos.
My tip: go early
If there's one piece of advice I'd give, it's to experience Cap de Formentor shortly after sunrise. The viewpoints are almost empty, the temperatures are cooler and the morning light makes the landscape even more dramatic. It's one of those moments that reminds you why North Mallorca is such a special place to explore.
The best restaurants in Pollença
One of the reasons to visit Pollença is the food. Despite being a relatively small town, it has an impressive restaurant scene where traditional Mallorcan flavours meet modern Mediterranean cooking. Whether you're looking for a long lunch in the sun or a memorable dinner after a day of exploring, you'll find plenty of excellent places to eat.
Restaurant Rico Mediterráneo
If you're celebrating a special occasion or simply fancy an exceptional dinner, Rico Mediterráneo is one of my top recommendations. The menu combines Mediterranean flavours with beautifully presented seasonal dishes, while the elegant garden setting creates a relaxed atmosphere that's perfect for a long evening.
Restaurant Mares
Restaurant Mares is offering a contemporary take on Mediterranean cuisine. Expect fresh seafood, seasonal vegetables and local ingredients prepared with plenty of creativity. The stylish interior and relaxed atmosphere make it equally suitable for lunch or dinner.
Restaurant La Fonda d'Aigua
Tucked away in the historic centre, La Fonda d'Aigua is one of those restaurants you'll be glad you discovered. The menu changes with the seasons and focuses on fresh local produce, creating refined dishes without losing their authentic Mallorcan character.

Head to Loqueria in Port de Pollença for fresh Italian pasta and tiramisu. Cosy atmosphere.
Slow lunches are part of the experience
One thing I've noticed in Pollença is that nobody seems to rush lunch. Terraces gradually fill throughout the afternoon, bottles of local wine appear on the tables and meals naturally stretch into hours rather than minutes. My favourite days usually start with exploring the old town, followed by a relaxed lunch before continuing to Port de Pollença or Cap de Formentor. It perfectly captures the slower pace that makes this part of Mallorca so enjoyable.
Because Pollença is such a popular destination, especially between May and October, I'd recommend making dinner reservations in advance for the restaurants on this list. The best tables often book up quickly during the summer months.
The best coffee and brunch in Pollença
A great day in Pollença almost always starts with good coffee. Fortunately, the town has embraced the specialty coffee scene, making it easy to find an excellent flat white, homemade pastries or a relaxed brunch before heading out to explore.
La Molienda Specialty Coffee & Brunch
If I had to recommend just one café, it would be La Molienda Specialty Coffee & Brunch. This stylish café has become a favourite among both locals and visitors thanks to its excellent specialty coffee, colourful brunch dishes and relaxed atmosphere. It's the perfect place to start your morning before wandering through the old town or heading towards Cap de Formentor.
Bo’s Pollença
Another great option is Bo’s Pollença, a cosy café serving quality coffee, fresh breakfasts and homemade cakes. It's slightly quieter than some of the busier cafés, making it a lovely place to slow down and enjoy the relaxed rhythm of the town.
One of my favourite ways to spend a morning in Pollença is grabbing a coffee, strolling through the boutiques and simply seeing where the charming streets take me. It's a reminder that in Pollença, some of the best moments aren't planned, they happen naturally.
Shopping in Pollença
One of the things I enjoy most about shopping in Pollença is that it feels genuinely local. Instead of large international brands, the historic streets are lined with independent boutiques, artisan shops and small family-run businesses. It's the perfect place to pick up something unique while supporting local makers. You'll come across shops selling handmade ceramics, woven baskets, linen clothing, jewellery and locally produced olive oil and delicacies.
If you're visiting on a Sunday, don't miss the weekly market around Plaça Major. It's one of the most popular markets in North Mallorca, with stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, flowers, cheeses, clothing, artisan products and souvenirs. I love arriving early, grabbing a coffee first and then browsing the market before it gets busy.

We had an amazing time on a boat trip out on the water. We explored secluded bays, enjoyed delicious drinks and snacks, and even stopped for some great snorkelling.

Arrive at Palma de Mallorca Airport, collect your rental car and drive around 45 minutes to Pollença. After checking into your hotel or villa, spend the afternoon exploring the charming Old Town before enjoying dinner at restaurant La Fonda d'Aigua.

Leave early to visit Cap de Formentor before the road closes to most private vehicles at 10:00 AM. Stop at Mirador Es Colomer and continue to the famous lighthouse for spectacular coastal views. Spend the afternoon relaxing by the pool before enjoying one final dinner in Pollença. We went to the newly opened Rico Mediterráneo.
Day 5: Sunday Market & departure
Start your final morning at Pollença's famous Sunday Market, where you'll find local produce, artisan goods and handmade souvenirs. Finish your trip with a leisurely lunch in Plaça Major before driving back to Palma de Mallorca Airport around 2:00 PM for your flight home. It's the perfect ending to a relaxing holiday in North Mallorca.
